First Year Tips for You to Crush Your Freshman Year (with Guilherme Moraes)

What’s your name and what year are you in?

My name is Guilherme and I am in my junior year.

What are the top 3 things you wish you had known before arriving in college?

  • I wanted to know what is a syllabus for a class.

  • I wish I had a better understanding of the Canvas platform before getting to USF.

  • I wish I knew more about the opportunities the college of business offered, and how important it is to be involved in campus life as soon as you get to college.

How was your first year? What was great and what could have been better?

Overall I had a great first year.

I lived many amazing new experiences, like tailgating in the Raymond James with people I became friends with, and living on campus with a guy from Uzbekistan.

However,

  • I wish I knew the importance of the syllabus better at that time.

  • I wish I had more involvement in student organizations.

  • I could definitely have better time management.

What are your top 3 recommendations for first year students?

  • Go through canvas before the start of classes and read the syllabus for your classes.

  • Don't be afraid to get involved on campus, there are so many opportunities and everyone finds a place they belong.

  • Explore TAMPA! As the years go by you'll have less time to go to the beach and enjoy the city, so take advantage of your free time to do these activities in your freshman year.
